Good Lord, Sally. You are a survivor, and that's the least that one might say. What mostly comes through to me is your remarkable and admirable aptitude for finding the positive in whatever life's accidents present you with. Remember, you still always have a home in Davis and in fact, you haven't even sold your house here yet. Also, if Emily, Susan Mann and the Margadants do ever install themselves in the URC, you now occupy the top of the list of names on that waiting list! So your options are several and all of them with their own attractions. Ninety days a year installed somewhere in France is also still an option. What most relieves my mind is knowing that your return to the Catskills under grey skies is still a comfort!
Wow, whiplash! You are certainly being given a lot of chances to practice flexibility… I like the Hudson Valley too, and with my 2 kids in NYC and upstate, I often fantasize about getting a summer place there.
This is a masterclass in meeting the unexpected, Sally. You're obviously going to thrive wherever you land. I've also long harbored a desire to do one of those long walks in England, nice reasonable stretches between pubs, sleeping in b&bs, etc., I hope you'll be able to do that. Meanwhile, that part of NY is particularly lovely, so glad you & Billie are happy there. PS. I love your writing.

That's a comfort, Joby.
